Example number 1 of 8: The popular internet search engine appealed to users to respond to a survey regarding some cultural beliefs. Jamshed found some of the questions objectionable and hence abstained from participating in the survey.

 

Example number 2 of 8: The biggest challenge for Dominic was to abstain from alcohol. Since the recent medical tests had indicated distress to his liver, he had to stay away from alcohol.

 

Example number 3 of 8: Kartar Singh joined a secret military operation which would last for a year. The unit head advised him to abstain from disclosing his location details to any outsider including his family members during this period.

 

Example number 4 of 8: The gymnast lost her balance during the contest and fractured her ankle. She recovered after Six months. Yet, she was advised by her physiotherapist to abstain from practice for another two months.

 

Example number 5 of 8: The farmers would normally burn the wastage from the fields. The youth from a city club explained to them the adverse impact of this on the environment. The farmers were convinced and they agreed to abstain from using this method.

 

Example number 6 of 8: The principal held a meeting of the teachers and asked them to abstain from giving any physical punishment to the students. He suggested a joint meeting with the school counselor to resolve any complaints about the students.

 

Example number 7 of 8: The tourists taking a boat ride along the lake would feed snacks to the birds flying over the lake. These food articles are harmful for the birds. Hence, the local corporation put up boards asking the tourists to abstain from feeding the birds.

 

Example number 8 of 8: The members of a social media group were having heated arguments over their political preferences. Finally, the group admin intervened and requested the members to abstain from posting politically biased messages.
