Today’s word is: excessive. Excessive means: more than necessary, too much or too many, exceeding the normal, beyond the permissible limit

The word excessive means something which is more than required or beyond a specified limit.

For example: The citizens complained about the excessive parking charges in the central city area.

Example number 1 of 8:  The event planners had arranged for food in excessive quantities and varieties for the summer carnival. The turnout (means attendance) at the carnival was less than expected and this resulted in large wastage of food.

 

Example number 2 of 8:  The school had organised a nature camp for the students in a hilly area. The students were advised to carry warm clothes since the night temperature was expected to be excessively low which means very cold.

 

Example number 3 of 8:  The educationists are worried about the excessive dependence of the younger generation on electronic gadgets and internet search engines. They advise the parents to encourage children to read books and engage in outdoor activities.

 

Example number 4 of 8:  The federation of state businessmen questioned the rationale behind the excessive controls implemented by the tax authorities. They made a representation to the Chief Minister to review the same.

 

Example number 5 of 8: The processed food articles are reported to have excessive amounts of sugar, salt and chemical preservatives. This is known to have adverse effect on health. Therefore, doctors strongly recommend moderate consumption of these items.

 

Example number 6 of 8:  The boy was crossing the street while listening to music on the earphones. He could not hear the horn of incoming vehicle and met with an accident. People rushed him to the nearest hospital, but his situation became critical due to excessive bleeding.

 

Example number 7 of 8:  The new CEO addressed the employees of the company. He informed them about the excessive debt the company was in. Therefore, he appealed to them to introspect and control the expenditure.

 

Example number 8 of 8: The city’s intelligence unit received confidential news about probable entry of a notorious criminal gang into the city. Hence, it immediately informed all police stations to maintain excessive caution.
