Today’s word is: flaunt. Flaunt means:  to show your possessions, beauty, abilities to get admiration, to go out of your way to display something to attract attention, to ignore or treat with disrespect

The word flaunt indicates deliberately trying to make people notice your possessions, beauty, abilities etc. so that they admire you.

For example, the rich man’s attempt to flaunt his wealth was noticed by his friends and they winked at each other.

Example number 1 of 8:  Mr. Gerald invited guests from overseas to visit his new farm house near the sea shore. He personally took them around the property in order to flaunt his possessions.

 

Example number 2 of 8:  The region was facing a severe draught and people were suffering from loss of income and poverty. The social organisations appealed to the affluent people in the region to avoid flaunting through lavish weddings and celebrations.

 

Example number 3 of 8: Raghavan had a good knowledge about the Indian Penal code and he would flaunt his knowledge in front of his colleagues and society members. While everyone appreciated his expertise, no one liked his attitude.

 

Example number 4 of 8: Dr. Decosta worked as a professor at a university. He was bestowed with several academic honours. However, he was very humble and never flaunted his knowledge.

 

Example number 5 of 8:  The owner of a business empire had come up from a modest background. He respected the value of money and never flaunted his riches.

 

Example number 6 of 8:  The Bollywood superstar kept everyone waiting at the premier of his movie. When he ensured that the fans and everyone from the media were present, he arrived at the venue flaunting his new sports car.

 

Example number 7 of 8: The newly recruited technician would flaunt his technical knowledge to his colleagues. But, soon it was clear that he was not competent enough in the relevant field.

 

Example number 8 of 8: People would be surprised to see the chief minister of their state standing in a queue at the airport along with them. People appreciated the fact that he never flaunted his position.
