Today’s word is: gratitude. Would you like to know what it means? It means: A feeling of being thankful; to show appreciation for and to return kindness, sense of obligation.

The word gratitude means an emotion of being thankful and appreciate the help received.

 

For example: The temple offered food to long distance travelers and they had a look of gratitude in their eyes.

 

Listen carefully how we can use the word gratitude in 8 different situations in 8 different sentences.

 

Example number 1 of 8: The batch of year 2000 came together and organised an event to express their gratitude towards their teachers. The teachers were elated to meet their ex-students and wished them well for a bright future.

 

Example number 2 of 8:  Yashika’s father was admitted to intensive care unit. A large sum of money was needed for his operation. She went out to make arrangements for the money. When she returned, she saw that the doctors had operated on her father successfully without waiting for the payment. She thanked the doctors and tears of gratitude filled her eyes.

 

Example number 3 of 8:   Jitesh looked at his coach with a feeling of gratitude while receiving the gold medal. He remembered the day when he joined the coaching academy on a scholarship offered by the coach. When he spoke to media, he praised his coach and thanked him.

 

Example number 4 of 8: Naomi spoke passionately on the occasion of ‘mother’s day’. She reminded everyone that instead of celebrating only a single day, we should feel gratitude towards our mother throughout our lives.

 

Example number 5 of 8:  Mr. Pai was an eminent scholar of history. A local school in his town requested him to deliver a lecture about King Shivaji. He happily obliged, but refused to accept any payment. Nevertheless, the school presented him with a gift as a token of gratitude.

 

Example number 6 of 8:  Anuj presented a gold bracelet to his friend’s mother as a mark of his gratitude. When she hesitated, he reminded her of her love and care towards him when he stayed with them as a student.

 

Example number 7 of 8:  The hospital constructed a separate unit for a blood bank. This was possible due to generous donation by Mrs Birla. The hospital arranged a small function to express their gratitude towards her and invited the press to cover the event.

 

Example number 8 of 8: The farmers harvested a phenomenal quantity of crop this year. They were ecstatic and organised a religious ceremony at the village temple as gratitude towards God.
