Today’s word is: stint. The meaning of stint is: a fixed or limited period of time spent doing a particular job or activity, a definite quantity of work assigned, to supply sparingly with restricted quantities

A stint is a period of time which someone spends doing a particular job or activity or working in a particular place.

 

For example: The doctor did a two year stint in rural area to get more exposure to a different category of patients.

Example number 1 of 8:  It was during her stint as a yoga instructor that Jimisha came in contact with some German tourists. She interacted with them, learnt the language and got an opportunity to conduct yoga programs in Germany as well.

 

Example number 2 of 8:  Sunil and Aditi met during their job stint overseas. They got to know each other better over a period of time and decided to get married after returning to India.

 

Example number 3 of 8: There are a few countries where every citizen must compulsorily complete a stint in the military for a predetermined period. It is believed that it trains them in discipline and stimulates patriotism.

 

Example number 4 of 8: Before joining the bank, Anish had a brief stint as a teacher. His talent for explaining the concepts to his juniors was spotted by the head of training department and he was offered an opportunity to join the training department of the bank.

 

Example number 5 of 8:  The modern thinking related to parenting, treats sons and daughters equally. It advocates that the boys must learn to share equal responsibility on house work and this includes a stint in the kitchen as well.

 

Example number 6 of 8:  Sasha came to India for a month long stint as a volunteer with a gurudwara (which is a place of worship). She was enchanted by the culture and harmony and decided to extend her stay for Two years.

 

Example number 7 of 8:  A well prepared plan has high probability of being successful. Hence we must not stint on time during the planning stage.  We should validate all different parameters and try to make a flawless plan.

 

Example number 8 of 8: Rihana worked as a nurse with the Red Cross organisation and she did stints in several countries. This made her a very competent medical professional. The UNO reciprocated her earnest service with an international award.
