Today’s word is: Strategy Would you like to know what it means? It means – a plan of action designed to achieve a long-term or an overall aim.

 

In this English vocabulary lesson, you will learn how to use the word ‘strategy’. We are sure that this ESL lesson will help you to enhance your English vocabulary and speak English fluently and confidently.

 

John is a student. He is from a middle-class background. He is good at studies but has a bad habit of spending a lot of money unnecessarily. He spends all his pocket money and never saves any money for his future.

One day he realizes that it is a very big mistake. Then he decides to start saving money. He sits with a notebook and pen. He plans his budget for the month.

He creates a plan of action (creates a structured method of taking necessary steps) to achieve his goal of saving half of his pocket money. He plans on how much money he will spend every day. He lists out where to spend and where not to spend. This is John’s strategy to save money.

 

Deciding what you want to achieve, how you will achieve it and the actions you will take to achieve that goal is called strategy.

 

You will now listen to how we can use the word strategy in 8 different forms in 8 different Contexts.

 

Example number 1 of 8: Sam is thinking to start a new business. He needs a proper action plan to operate the business successfully. Can you guess what does Sam need? Yes, you are right Sam needs a business strategy.

 

Example number 2 of 8: Apple has become the first trillion dollar company in the world. Do you know how? Apple achieved this goal with the help of a strong business strategy.

 

Example number 3 of 8: Emily realizes that she has very less time to prepare for her upcoming exams. But she doesn’t worry much. She makes a proper plan of what and how to study and clears her exam. So what did Emily actually do? Emily developed a strategyand cleared the exam.

 

Example number 4 of 8: Every government needs an economic strategy to build the country’s financial capital. This means that every government needs a plan of action to achieve the goal of making the country financially strong.

 

Example number 5 of 8: The police devised a plan to trap the criminal at his own house. Try to use the word strategy here. You can say –The police devised a strategy to trap the criminal at his own house.

 

Example number 6 of 8: Some businessmen never reveal their business strategy. This means that they do not share their business plan with others.

 

Example number 7 of 8: The world needs an effective strategy to fight global warming. This means that the world needs a proper plan of action to reduce the effects of global warming.

 

Example number 8 of 8: The new marketing head had innovative ideas to capture the market. He designed a robust (powerful) marketing strategy which the management appreciated a lot.

 

Today we learned the word “strategy” which means – a plan of action designed to achieve a long-term or an overall aim.
