Today’s word is: unforeseen – The meaning of this word is: Not anticipated or predicted. Something that was unexpected.

Let’s assume that you are on your way for an important business meeting. You are carrying all the necessary documents. Your phone, laptop and everything else is charged. You left before time to avoid any delay.

 

But, when you reach the airport, you realize that your flight has been delayed by 5 hours… Now, this was not anticipated (expected). Unfortunately, you have to cancel the meeting.

 

Such situations are called unforeseen. You can not anticipate these situations. Your meeting had to be canceled because of unforeseen circumstances.

 

Listen carefully on how we can use the word unforeseen in 8 different forms in 8 different situations.

 

Example number 1 of 8:  We all are aware of car insurance policies. These policies can protect our car against unpredictable emergencies. Can you use today’s word in this sentence? Yes! You can say – Insurance policies can protect our vehicles against unforeseen emergencies/damages.

 

Example number 2 of 8:  Jay and his wife decided to go out for dinner in the evening. But due to unanticipated rain, they had to cancel the plan. Think about how can we use unforeseen in this sentence. Yes, you are right. You can say – Jay and his wife had to cancel the plan due to unforeseen weather conditions.

 

Example number 3 of 8:  Anne runs a small business in her town. Due to some unforeseen financial losses, she began saving 30% of her profit for unexpected financial hardships. Can you use today’s word instead of unexpected financial hardships? Correct. Anne saves 30% of her profits for the unforeseen financial crisis.

 

Example number 4 of 8:  The head of sales resigned hence the head of marketing was given additional responsibility due to unforeseen circumstances. Here, as the head of sales resigned from his post, the head of marketing was given additional responsibilities.

 

Example number 5 of 8: Railway has started a hotline for women for assisting them if any unforeseen situation arises. This shows that women can contact the railway police in case of any unexpected situation.

 

Example number 6 of 8: Wise people say that life is full of unforeseen circumstances, which means you can never really predict what will happen in the future.

 

Example number 7 of 8: Raj and Simran were working in different branches of the same office. Their wedding was unforeseen since no one even knew that they were engaged. In this sentence, it is clear that nobody had anticipated that they will get married.

 

Example number 8 of 8: James could not reach office on time because an unforeseen road accident had blocked the traffic. This means the road accident was unexpected.
