Today’s word is: plethora. The meaning of plethora is: a large or excessive amount of something, often more than needed

The word plethora is used to express something in very large quantity. Sometimes this quantity is in excess of what is required.

Example number 1 of 8:  Prachi passed her 12th standard examination and she came across a plethora of courses to choose from. She was confused and took the help of a career counselor to select the appropriate course.

 

Example number 2 of 8:  Anup bought a new laptop and tried to install a browser on his own. He came across a plethora of options on the internet. Therefore, he compared the features of some of the popular options, and downloaded the browser most suitable for him.

 

Example number 3 of 8: The CEO reminded his design team that the market was flooded with plethora of wall papers and ceramic tiles. Therefore, he encouraged them to think out of the box and come up with innovative designs.

 

Example number 4 of 8: Srinivas surfed the net to look for resorts at a hill station. He found plethora of listings. However, since he was accompanied by his parents, he chose a resort which offered the most suitable amenities.

 

Example number 5 of 8:  Diana was overwhelmed to see the plethora of CDs available in the music library. So she began renting one CD every week continuously for one whole year.

 

Example number 6 of 8:  The city had a plethora of organisations working for the welfare of orphans. Often, there was a lack of clarity about which organization is offering its services in which area. Hence, a central directory was created to resolve this problem.

 

Example number 7 of 8:  The auditors presented a report to the MD regarding the safety precautions to be taken at their factory. But the report was very lengthy and had plethora of details. Hence, the MD requested the auditors to prepare a summary blueprint and submit.

 

Example number 8 of 8: The act was passed in the parliament a decade ago. Since then, it has undergone plethora of amendments. The law committee therefore decided to prepare a fresh draft of the act and put it before the parliament.
