The word prerogative is used to express a privilege or an exclusive right enjoyed by an individual or an organization. For example, it is the prerogative of the judge, hearing the case, whether to impose a fine on the accused or send him to jail.

Example number 1 of 8: The Owner of SEPL Ltd. issued a circular in his office that it was his prerogative to finalize the selling price of their products. He instructed the staff to consult him before submitting any quotation.

 

Example number 2 of 8: Joint family system is being followed in many regions in India for many years. Earlier days, only the head of the family had the prerogative to take all major decisions related to the entire family. However, these days, all family members participate in the decision-making process.

 

Example number 3 of 8: The Cosmos club held its Annual General meeting in the last month. As per the resolution passed in this meeting, it would be prerogative of the managing committee to decide on granting membership to new applicants.

 

Example number 4 of 8: Sometimes, inappropriate (means improper) messages are circulated on social media. These can create conflicts and disturb the peace within society. At such times, it is the prerogative of the group administrator to block such messages.

 

Example number 5 of 8: A toss is held at the beginning of a cricket test match. It is then the prerogative of the toss-winning captain to decide whether to bat or bowl first.

 

Example number 6 of 8: Rambo, the lead actor in a play suggested that certain changes should be made to the script. However, the director of the play rejected the suggestions and clarified that it was his prerogative to finalize the script.

 

Example number 7 of 8: Few Dolphins were spotted at the seashore of a village. This attracted several tourists to that spot. The local municipal body wanted to collect some tax from the tourists. But, the district government insisted that it was its prerogative to collect the tax.

 

Example number 8 of 8: There was no consensus amongst the teachers of PV school about the allocation of duties and the time table of classes. Finally, the principal used his prerogative to allocate the duties to the teachers.
